- Compose your Valentine-themed Haiku
- Enter your poem by
- Submitting a paper copy to the library staff. Or
- Send your poem via email to bhpl@boontonlibrary.org. Or
- Using this Google form
- Remember to include your name, age group, and best way to get in touch with you
- Deadline is Friday, February 9, 4 p.m.
- Winners will be announced on Tuesday, February 13
The contest is open to Boonton library cardholders, Town of Boonton residents and students enrolled in Boonton schools.
What’s a Haiku, anyway?
Content: Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry often inspired by nature. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.

- 0-7
- 8-12
- 13-18
- 19+
The winner in each group will receive their prize on Valentine’s Day.
