Celebrate love and friendship with
a Valentine-themed haiku!

Here’s how to participate

  • Compose your Valentine-themed Haiku
  • Enter your poem by
    • Submitting a paper copy to the library staff. Or
    • Send your poem via email to bhpl@boontonlibrary.org. Or
    • Using this Google form
  • Remember to include your name, age group, and best way to get in touch with you
  • Deadline is Friday, February 9, 4 p.m.
  • Winners will be announced on Tuesday, February 13

The contest is open to Boonton library cardholders, Town of Boonton residents and students enrolled in Boonton schools. 

What’s a Haiku, anyway?

Content: Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry often inspired by nature. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and  last lines of a haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.

Age groups are as follows

  • 0-7
  • 8-12
  • 13-18
  • 19+

The winner in each group will receive their prize on Valentine’s Day.
